Limit access to specific computers OR require a password

You can create an either/or access limit to pages in a folder: either the viewer is using a certain computer (such as "any computer in Earth Sciences"); or if he is not using one of the specified computers, he will be asked to provide a valid user name and password. In this case, you create an .htaccess file in the folder to be protected, using both sets of directives shown in the sections on limit access to specific computers and limit access by requiring a password. Then to tell the web server that you want to allow access to any viewer who satisfies either set of requirements, you add this directive line at the end of your .htaccess file:
